TOne snowy morning, Yusuf was walking carefully to school when he noticed a tiny red mitten lying near a bus stop. He picked it up and looked around, but nobody seemed to be searching for it. The mitten looked warm and soft, and Yusuf’s own gloves were old and worn out.
For a moment, Yusuf thought about keeping it. “Maybe nobody will come back for it,” he whispered to himself. But then he remembered that Allah سبحانه وتعالى loves honesty and kindness. He knew the mitten probably belonged to someone who would feel sad without it.
When Yusuf reached school, he asked students in every classroom if anyone had lost a mitten. Some students shook their heads, while others looked carefully at the mitten. Finally, a little boy from Grade 1 ran forward excitedly.
“That’s mine!” he said happily. “My grandmother knitted it for me, and I was crying because I lost it”
The boy smiled so widely that Yusuf immediately felt glad he had returned it. At lunchtime, the boy shared his cookies with Yusuf and thanked him again and again.
As Yusuf walked home later that day, he felt warm inside, even though the winter air was freezing cold.
