A Story About Ikhlas – Doing What Is Right Because It Is True
The Dilemma
Arya is in 7th grade. For the school project week, her group wants to copy a popular idea from the internet just to get likes. Arya has a different idea in her notebook — something she truly believes in: “Honesty is the best.”
She has two posters in her hands:
GROUP PROJECT: “Just go along – Everyone picked this one”MY TRUTH: “Honesty is the best – I wrote what I really think”It would be easy to just go along. But sincerity is hard.
The Courageous Moment
The teacher writes on the board: “Lesson: Sincerity – Being Honest & True”
Arya takes a deep breath and stands up. Her voice shakes a little, but she speaks from her heart. “This is what I really think is true. I didn’t write it to impress anyone. I wrote it because I believe it.”
The whole class goes quiet and listens. Being sincere takes courage, but it makes people trust you.
The Real Reward
After class, two friends come to Arya on the bench.
One says, “I was also scared to say what I really thought. But when you did it, I felt brave too.”
Arya smiles. She realizes sincerity is not about being perfect or popular. It’s about:
Saying what you mean. Meaning what you say: Doing it for Allah / doing it because it’s right, not for show.
When you are sincere, you find real friends who like the real you.
Moral for Middle Schoolers:
In middle school, it’s easy to pretend to be someone else to fit in. Sincerity (Ikhlas) means you stay true to your values even when it’s not popular. People may not always clap for it at first, but your heart will feel light, and Allah loves the sincere heart.
